Custer Dredge

Idaho, central, Custer Dredge near the ghost town of Custer. This floating and crawling literally chewed up and spit out miles of the Yankee Fork of the Salmon River. Surprisingly it only took three men to run it. From an environmental perspective you won’t be impressed by the piles of churned and spit out rocks in the canyon but the machine itself is impressive in an industrial age sense. Self guided tours begin on memorial day and the 5 dollar fee is well worth it. You will be able to imagine what is what is was like for the operators inside the noisy dungeons of the beast.
